DUTIES OF THE OFFICE OF THE TAX COLLECTOR

The Tax Collector collects the General Property Taxes in January. The bills are generally mailed out the last week in December. Payments can be made upon receipt of bill through January 31st, without penalty. If they are paid on/after February 1st, there is a penalty, see below:

February:   1% penalty
March:        2% penalty (plus $2 Second Notice Fee)

After March 31st, all unpaid parcels are turned over to Orange County for collection.

Payments may be made in person by check, cash, money order OR credit card and payments can also be made by mail.

All payments have to be made for the correct amount due and we do not accept partial payments.
Please do not send cash through the mail.

The property tax bill contains levies for the Town, County, Fire District, and any special districts.
In addition, if school or sewer bills are unpaid the previous year, they will be re-levied on the recent Property Tax Bill.

The Town of Monroe Tax Office does not collect Village Tax Bills; they are mailed out early June,
and School Taxes for the School District are mailed out early September.

Please contact their tax office with any questions you may have regarding any of these tax bills.
